Buchanaan Castle Golf Course

Buchanan Castle Golf Club was established in 1936 and is owned by the Duke of Montrose. Buchanan is a lush parkland course offering and abundance of scenic views that live in the memory for many years. Buchanan Castle is a particular pleasure for the touring golfer. For one thing, he will be made very welcome. For another, it is not much more than half an hour by road from Glasgow. It is only a few miles off the direct route from the city to the famous attractions of the Trossachs and it is perfectly served by the lovely village of Drymen, less than two miles away.

Buchanan CastleOne intriguing aspect of play over the course is that many fairways have been framed by two tall trees, one on either side, at around 200 yards, or where the Braid Doglegs start to turn. These are simple but insidious. For example, the very first hole has these fraiming trees just where the fairway turns right. The hole is 396 yards.

If you drive well to the left to open up the second shot, you find a diagonal of three bunkers squeezing out the left side of the green on the line of our approach, and your approach is likely to need a healthy iron shot.

Like every other golf course built, no matter how short, how simple, Buchanan Castle will prevail over the golfer unless he brings to it a proper swing, hits the shot correctly, and gets the ball out about 200 yards from the tee and into the fairway. Buchanan Castle Golf Course offers mountains, river and forest near the shores of Loch Lomond. It is a stunningly beautiful parkland course a place you will remember with affection.
