This reasonably flat municipal course lies just three miles north of Glasgow city centre, but it couldn’t be further away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
Officially opened by the Provost of Glasgow in 1923, it has provided a platform for many talented and dedicated golfers and is the perfect venue for the beginner who wants to get familiarised with the great game.
In fact the club prides itself in the fact that it was once the workplace of club professional Walter Lyle, the uncle of Ryder Cup and Masters winner Sandy Lyle.
At well over 6000 yards its certainly no pushover and rivals many of its private neighbours in its difficulty. Only those playing very good with all the clubs in their bag have any hope of playing to their handicap.
Many of the fairways are tree-lined and an old dyke cuts across several of the fairways bringing a whole new obstacle to your play. Great fun and well worth the trip - and diminutive green fee.
