Pardoning the cliché, Carlyon Bay is truly a course of two halves. The opening nine is made all the more challenging for being located along the coastal cliff-top, before it winds into parkland for the back stretch.

Many a visitor has commented on the stunning views across St. Austell Bay from this par 71, Championship length course. And if you can carefully negotiate your way through it with a clean scorecard in tact then you can ponder over its stunning vistas some more from the superb clubhouse facilities. Societies always welcome.

Alternatively, make a weekend of it and stay in the hotel on the grounds as hotel guests are allowed use of the course for free.
