Downes Crediton Golf Club

The idea of an 18-hole golf course in Crediton was formulated in 1972 when the Downes Estate made 87 acres of agricultural ground available for this purpose.

With the land in tow a group of enthusiasts proceeded to design and raise money for the course and in 1976 the dream was realised when the course was opened with an exhibition match played two of England’s leading amateur players.

The course itself is a fantastic experience in parkland golf, with brilliant lakes and ponds that provide great scenery as well as potential hazards. A medium length course the emphasis here is a placement and selection rather than out and out shot power.

Since it’s opening over forty years ago Downes Crediton has undergone many changes both on and off the course. One thing remains though and that is the clubs commitment to providing top quality golf in a relaxed environment. In this respect Downes Crediton succeeds every time, a truly great place to play golf.
