The course is a mixture of Parkland and Fell. The course
was designed and built by the members and it was opened in 1969 by the
late Lord Whitelaw although the club has been in existance since 1905
on varying sites in the area.

Although
only a ten hole course at present, work is underway to add a further eight
holes on an adjacent 65 acre site and these holes will be much easier
walking as the site is fairly flat. The present course is very testing
for all levels of golfer and there are some very interesting holes. Alston
does not use any temorary greens and only closed when covered in snow.

The clubhouse offers excellent food at weekends and there is a well stocked
bar. Societies are always welcome and the club has memberships available
in all categories. There are some excellent views of the North Pennines
with Cross Fell being the highest in the range (usually covered in snow
until June) and the course overlooks the South Tyne Valley and is well
worth a visit.
