There can be few more impressive golfing locations than Matfen Hall. Situated in the heart of rural Northumberland, yet within easy reach of Newcastle upon Tyne, the former seat of the Blackett family has been converted into a luxury country house hotel with stunning views over its own highly rated 18 hole course.

The course is laid out on a classic parkland landscape with fairways and greens flanked by majestic trees. Whilst it offers an enjoyable test for all golfers, challenging water features have been incorporated in the shape of a large lake and the fast flowing River Pont. The dry stone 'ha ha' wall also presents a unique obstacle. Maften's 'signature' hole is the long par 3 17th, with its narrow green cunningly sited just over the river.

Matfen Hall is home to a thriving golf club with a variety of membership options. Visitors though, are welcome, with excellent off course facilities and catering making it the perfect venue for corporate or society days. The Conservatory Golf Club Bar overlooking the final green is a splendid '19th' hole while the private dining rooms are full of character.

Directions
Exit the A69 at Hedon on the Wall and pick up the B6318, just before Three Tuns public house. Continue on the B6318 for 7 miles; the turning to Matfen is on the right.
