South Shields golf
club is particularly popular with local golfers, no doubt as a result
of the excellent all year round playability it can offer, thanks largely
to its limestone base which provides natural irrigation and drainage.
Consequently, the club can afford to stay open virtually all year round
and maintain top-quality playing conditions.
It provides a fair
test for all levels of golfer - from the high to the low handicapper -
and its location means it is prone to blustery winds, so heightening the
challenge it poses. Measuring 6264 yards over eighteen holes, it is relatively
long, and so the par of 71 is quite generous.
