This heathland course is situated is situated on the edge of the Pennines and provides wonderful views of the Cheshire Plain and the perimeter of the Peak District. But don’t let the scenery distract you from what is a fairly short but exceptionally tricky round of golf.

Provided you keep the ball straight then there’s an opportunity to boost your confidence with a net sub-70 score here. You don’t have to be long off the tee but don’t be greedy, accuracy is the key word on most holes.

Some holes may be within reach for the longer hitters but many will find they’ve played themselves into trouble by selecting to play the driver.

Once you make the greens you can expect find them in tip-top condition. A lot of work has gone into improving the putting surfaces in recent years and they’re quickly becoming recognised as some of the best in the area.

But the highlight of any round here will be the signature 7th hole. With views that rate among the highest in the north-west, it’s worth the green fee on its own.
