Many of you will be most familiar with Sale Golf Club thanks to its past Open Championship winner, Richard Burton, the last ‘Club Professional’ to win the Open and of whom the club is immensely proud.

The club itself was founded in 1913 and is a fabulous tree-lined course which offers some of the finest golfing challenges to be found anywhere in the area. The well-established parkland course also hosts the lodge of Sale Old Hall as its clubhouse, which, founded in 1830, is steeped in history and many a good story is told over lunch at this club.

The course itself is brilliant parkland far with two holes in particular standing out. The par-4 13th, ‘Watery Gap’, is a real thinking mans hole with a dog leg left and plenty of water and trees in the way. The 17th ‘Bunker Hill’ is also challenging. The par-3 stays true to its name with a small green guarded by a huge, deep sand-trap.

The course has also embarked upon and 10-year ecology programme and, being situated near a Water Sports Centre, there has been a huge increase in the bird and wildlife population on the course in recent years.
