Whetstone Golf Club

The worst mistake any golfer stepping on the first tee at Whetstone is to think he can overpower this fairly short course. At just 5,800 yards on paper the challenge may seem fairly straightforward – crack a few big ones down the middle and you’d think a good score is almost guaranteed. In reality Whetstone has enough in store to challenge even the best of us.

With two par-4s of over 470 yards in length and a 570 yards par-5 aptly named “Devil’s Elbow”, you’ll be satisfied walking off the 18th green that you’ve had the opportunity to play every club in the bag.

Designed by Nick Leatherland, it opened in the early 1960s to huge critical acclaim and intrigue amongst local club golfing enthusiasts. Carefully crafted, Leatherland ensured with his design that course management would be essential. While the driver can be taken on most holes, players must weight its advantages of distance over the directional benefits of an iron, and in most cases the latter will come out on top.

In this way, Whetstone is a truly unique challenge.
