Medlock Road, Woodhouses, Failsworth, Manchester, M35 9WQ
The scenery is idyllic with breathtaking views, especially from the 12th tee where you can see the surrounding city of Manchester and the entire course from the top. The course was originally founded in 1896 under the name of Clayton Golf Club and wasn’t renamed Brookdale until it was moved to Lord Lane, Failsworth in 1905 where it was established as a fine nine-holer.
It remained there until 1962 when it was again moved, this time to the Woodhouses area of Failsworth where it was extended to a 12-holer and remains in the same location.
As the popularity of the course improved and membership increased, the club bought more land to further extend it to a full 18 holes in 1973. Although it may be a short course, there is no end to the challenges Brookdale offers golfers old and new.
The variety of holes require careful navigation and the River Medock runs through the land, coming into play on six holes. The real challenge comes from club choice; avoid overhitting and missing the green.
