Richmond Golf Club

Age certainly seems to have agreed with Richmond Golf Club, in fact, it seems as the course has matured it has become a more challenging round of golf.

Set on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Richmond, North Yorkshire, the club was formed in 1892 but has only been based at Bend Hagg since 1904 when members decided that the farm’s rolling fields would provide better playing conditions than the old racecourse nearby. The club installed Frank Pennink as course designer and, as they say, the rest is history.

The original nine-hole course was extended to 18 in 1972 thanks to the intelligent use of the surrounding area and limited land available for use.

It may not be the longest of courses, but the close proximity of out of bounds and the notoriously tricky greens that what is lost in challenge to length, is made up for with width and hazards.

Sited above a historic town and exposed to the elements, particularly the wind, it is definitely a place to concentrate at all times or your scorecard may take a severe bashing.

The course is immaculately looked after by its dedicated greens staff and provides excellent clubhouse and catering for members and visitors alike.
