Dubbed ‘The Island’ King James VI was opened in 1958 and is currently Britain’s only self contained river island golf course and one of only two in the world. Located on the River Tay this very fact makes the course one of the most popular in the country with locals in particular knowing how privileged they are to have such a golf course close by.

Whilst this unique feature could be seen as more of a gimmick thankfully the golf course is of the highest standard. Renowned for its draining and lush fairways King James VI is a challenge for all golfers. Not least because of the Tay that hovers ominously over many holes where a ill timed slice will find your ball joining countless others in the water.

Designed by Old Tom Morris, King James VI’s unusual setting means that this course is worth the green fee alone. Add the fantastic golf on top and playing on King James VI is simply a must for any serious golfer.

Directions
Access to Moncrieffe Island is by a walkway alongside the railway bridge in Tay Street near the South Inch. Steps half way across take you under the bridge and along a footpath to the Golf Club.
