The Caribbean has that certain aura as a holiday destination, an aura that other holiday hotspots could only dream of. It is not a hugely popular place for golfers who are coming from the United Kingdom or mainland Europe for the simple reason that really knows much about it!
Well, that’s not strictly true. For most people, the idea of going to the Caribbean on a golf holiday sounds ideal – but the fun stops there. Most folk unknowingly think it’s too far away while others have no idea about the quality of golf courses or how relatively cheap it is considering what you get for your money.
Golfers, you see, in this part of the world and nothing but pampered. The Caribbean is now massively popular with Americans, for example, because many of the courses that were built in the 1960s and ‘70s have been rebuilt or redesigned so as to keep them at the forefront of the golf holiday market.
Make no mistake, throughout the year devotees of the fairways can play some of the world’s most idyllic courses, and there is no chance of massively inflated green fee in order to make money off starry-eyed tourists.
The Bahamas is littered with top-class venues, including Cotton Bay, Ocean Club and South Ocean. The beautifully-located Barbados isn’t exactly short on fun, either. Here, you can play the likes of Royal Westmoreland and, if you’re lucky, Sandy Lane, a personal favourite of Colin Montgomerie and the destination where Tiger Woods married his wife, Elin, a couple of years ago. The Bermuda area has the likes of Ocean View and Port Royal, the latter said to be one of the world’s greatest public golf courses.
As ever, it’s p to you to decide – and no doubt you’ll have quite a time doing just that.
