Golf in the Indian Ocean

The Indian Ocean is the third largest of the world’s five oceans (after the Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean, but larger than the South Ocean and Arctic Ocean) and it is also the most visually stunning, especially if you happy to be knocking a little white ball down a bright green fairway adjacent to it.

The location of the Indian Ocean is such that its body of water lies between Africa, the Southern Ocean, Asia and Australia – a fairly vast expanse, you’d have to agree. Because of that, it provides major sea routes connecting the Middle East, Africa and East Asia with Europe and the Americas.

But, for those of us who care mainly about its golfing qualities, it retains its status of importance via the golf destinations the caliber of Mauritius and Seychelles. Both are tropical beauties of the very highest order and provide a golfing escape that is quite hard to surpass.

Mauritius is a hotbed of wonderfully characteristic terrain, perfect for setting down a  unique golf course with all the trimmings. There are huge jagged mountain peaks, lagoons, waterfalls and stunning coral reefs that get wildlife experts all jittery at the knees. There are now a myriad of new golf courses to enjoy, the most recent being Bernhard Langer’s new venture – but the old venues are every inch as much fun, so make sure you keep your options open.
The Seychelles is not exactly big on golf but that certainly should not suggest that a visit with the golf clubs is not worth the effort. Golf is available – and it’s pretty spectacular, as you might expect!

All in all, the Indian Ocean not your average golf destination by any stretch of the imagination.
