in Pisa Tuscany represents the very heart of tourism
in Italy and its beauty is known throughout the world, especially when it comes
art. Pisa, a centre of ancient origin and home to the legendary Leaning Tower,
is widely thought of as the epicentre of all of Tuscany's artistic merits.
There
are castles, churches, monasteries and inviting little artistic
markets dotted in and around the ancient cobbled streets to visit.
Pisa has a very historical past and the town was an important port
in Roman times and there are remembrances to its past adventures
everywhere. There are two main courses in Pisa, Tirrenia Golf Club
and Cosmopolitan Golf Club, with a couple a little further out that
are also worth the short trip.
Tirrenia old course was completed in the
late sixties and features scenic serenity of high, pine tree-lined fairways and
inviting greens hugged by strategically placed sand traps. It is a fine nine-hole
layout where everything is before you. Two tee areas allow for a different approach
for your 18 holes. Cosmopolitan is around 500 metres from the sea and occupies
70 hectares of land. It was voted Best New Golf Course in Italy in 1993 and has
come on leaps and bounds since those early days. Water comes into play on 11 holes
and there are huge bunkers around certain greens, so it's a challenging layout
even for the best. It is a seaside links course that is susceptible to the sweeping
ocean winds and players with a good mind for the game are likely to fare best.
