Perhaps the most famous of the two courses at Carton House, the Montgomerie course was the second to open there but has hosted the Nissan Irish Open and the AIB Irish Amateur Open Championship.

Names after its designer, Colin Montgomerie, the course is inspired by the greatest links lands of the world and Montgomerie pays tribute to the traditions of the game and sets a challenge comparable to no other in Ireland.

It is golf at its purest with shot making at its best across sweeping fairways, cavernous bunkers and impeccable greens.

Montgomerie himself has said bunkering is what makes the test at some of the world’s top links courses and that was something he wanted to inherit in his own at Carton House.

These hazards work well with the prevailing wind, few holes are straight up and down the wind but tend to be across it, thus bringing the daunting bunkers into play. This course is an adventure from start to finish with a great mix of holes that test the world’s finest players.
