Address: Hacketstown, Skerries, Co Dublin

A club that probably doesn’t enjoy the reputation that it deserves, Skerries is one of the most under-rated championship courses in central Ireland. Situated on the outskirts of Dublin, it’s only twenty minutes from the airport and a perfect destination for a flying visit.

An 18-hole parkland course with undulating fairways, at well over 6000 yards its long enough to challenge most club golfers. The trees which line many of the fairways here often come to bear on play and can turn a good scorecard upside down if your driving starts to go wayward.

During your round you’ll no doubt notice the magnificent panorama the course provides of the sea and land extending from the Mourne Moutains to Howth and the Wicklows in the distance.

The favorite hole among many members at Skerries is the 12th, a short par 3. No more than a pitching wedge or nine-iron for most, there’s plenty of hazards between tee and green to trouble even truly struck shots if they are in any way affected by the prevailing wind from the west.
