Kirkistown Castle was formed in 1902 and the present course layout was designed by the legendary James Braid in 1934. It consists of two loops of 9 holes each beginning and ending at the clubhouse.

On seeing this links land for the first time Braid was heard to exclaim ‘If only I had this within 50 miles of London’. He spent a morning positioning the tees and greens and the afternoon positioning and shaping the bunkers.

Kirkistown Castle is widely regarded as one of the best PAR69 courses you are ever likely to play with a tremendous variety of holes to test every facet of your golf game. The signature hole, the PAR4 10th at 435yards with out of bounds all along the left, subtle bunkering on the right and an elevated green surrounded by links rough, gorse and whitethorn, is reputed to be one of the most difficult PAR4s in Irish golf. That said, the course is a true and fair test which suits low and high handicappers alike.

You will find a warm and friendly welcome and excellent bar and catering facilities.

As a true links, this golf course remains playable virtually 365days of the year and delivers a quality golfing experience throughout. Kirkistown Castle offers its visitors the chance to play ‘The Open’ style of links golf at reasonable Green Fee rates and is exceptional value for money.
