The raised links of Buckpool Golf Club on the Moray Coast is one of the North East’s best-kept golfing secrets. Located to the west of the traditional fishing town of Buckie, the course at Buckpool was created as a work scheme for the town’s unemployed during the economic downturn of the 1930s. Open Champion Paul Lawrie has fond memories of the venue as it was the scene of his first win as a professional, back in 1986.

Gorse-lined fairways rise and fall with the natural contours of the land, leading to slick greens guarded by cavernous pot bunkers. The wind is a constant factor in determining a player’s strategy, especially so when playing the coastal section of the course. Players might also pause to enjoy the scenery, with views across the Moray Firth to the hills of Caithness. To enjoy the views at their best, visitors are encouraged to play on late summer afternoons.

The hospitality at Buckpool is warm and authentic. The clubhouse has a fine selection of beverages and freshly prepared food to offer a well-earned rest after a round on this enjoyable links.
