Royal Tarlair Golf Club

Commanding panoramic views across Scotland’s dramatic north east coast, the cliff top parkland of Royal Tarlair is one of the most scenic courses Banffshire has to offer. Situated close to the town of Macduff, Banffshire, the Royal Tarlair Golf Club was founded by local fishermen at the start of the 20th century and has been playing over the present-day course since 1923. The local vista includes the village of Pennan, famous as the location for the classic film ‘Local Hero’.

A par-71, measuring 5,866 yards, Royal Tarlair follows the contours of the sheer Banffshire coast as it winds around punishing gorse bushes. Visitors are warned to steel their nerve for the challenge that lies ahead at the short par-3 13th hole, which demands an exact shot to a green across the rugged coastline. A deft touch with the short stick is required to prevail over putting surfaces that slope and borrow sharply.
