This beautifully maintained 9-hole parkland course represents a challenge to golfers of all abilities. With a standard scratch score of 68 for men (71 for ladies) the 5900 yard layout provides many a test. The course and its surroundings are famous locally for the rich variety of wildlife. A pause on the 5th fairway is frequently rewarded with the sight of soaring buzzards, so golf is not the only pleasure of a round at Tarland.

If you hit it straight, the 1st is an easy start but be careful at the green, as you could roll through and into the large waiting bunker. The 4th and 5th holes are the most notable on the course. On the 4th, a long strip of trees lies close on the right with a wee burn crossing in front of the green. It's a gorgeous wood enclosed hole to approach. The fifth is a lengthy par three of 236 yards. There is no real trouble apart from the distance, which is more than enough.

Many have set out to "tame the course", but few succeed which is why most are easily persuaded to return and retest their skills. During the months of April through October, the clubhouse is open daily from 8.30 until at least one hour after dusk. A bar menu is available daily and a full meal service can be obtained in the evenings at the weekend. A practice area is available and may be used by visitors to the course.
