Baberton Golf Club is located in the west side
of Edinburgh in the village of Juniper Green. The club was first constituted
in may 1893 and with the help of Willie Park Jnr, a two times open champion,
a 9 hole course was opened in July. From then the course was extended
to 18 holes. Apart from a few extensions over the years, this is the parkland
course, which today offers the golfer a variety of interesting and challenging
holes.
 The
outward half follows the boundary of the course, which shorter then the
inward half present some demanding par 3 and 4 holes over the undulating
terrain. The inward half has some longer equally challenging holes contained
within the course, which presents some majestic views of the Pentland
Hills, forth Bridges, Edinburgh castle and the Edinburgh sky line. The
course record at present stands at 64 with the professional record of
62 set by Brian Barnes.
The
clubhouse offers a friendly welcoming atmosphere to visitors, with the provision
of first class freshly prepared meals and snacks and a comprehensive choice of
beers, wines and spirits. The dining room can comfortably cater for up to 50 at
one sitting. The lounge is large with spacious booths allowing for parties of
up to 12 to sit together, as well as an extensive floor area up to the well stocked
bar. Snacks, drinks and pre-dinner drinks can be comfortably consumed in the lounge.
Try the 6th or 15th hole which is a par 5
dominated by the presence of Loch Lanlish where the fish jump and the ducks swim
and the decision has to be made to play over the loch and hope for a birdie or
play round and settle for par. Durness offers rewarding golf in friendly surroundings
and in the high season snacks
are available in the comfortable clubhouse. Trolley hire and clubhire are also
available.
