With excellent views of Edinburgh and located on the slopes of Pentland Hills, Lothianburn plays up hill from the clubhouse to the highest point on the course at the 13th green. Despite this there is only one real climb and that is on the 9th hole. Although the course is considered short by today’s standards it still represents a good test of golf. Like many, the course started life as 9-holes and was gradually increased until James Braid gave the course its final design 1929. Famous for its pristine greens that during the summer often play faster than those at the Augusta National. Throughout the course there are exceptional views of Edinburgh and the surrounding countryside with each hole offering a different challenge. The tough drive at the 5h where position is absolutely essential in order to make a clean pitch onto the elevated green or the long 14th three quarters of which is downhill with out of bounds on either side. The remaining quarter is a tough, long pitch onto another elevated green. With such a tough round it is comforting to know that the clubhouse is also up to high standards with a secure visitors changing room that will accommodate 20 guests as well as catering on every day with several packages available to cater for the needs of any golf group. On top of this there is a Pro shop on site, run by professional Kurt Mangell who also conducts repairs in the PGA approved shop. Facilities Directions Advance Bookings |
