A delightful nine hole links course weaving in and out of the Mussleburgh race course with a fascinating history. The links was originally seven holes, with another added in 1870 and a ninth, the "sea Hole" added in 1870.

The first hole, originally the ninth is a par 3, from there the next three holes play eastward from the grand stand at the racecourse, site of the former Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers Club House. At the fourth green, beside "hard shanks" bunker stands Mrs. Foreman's inn where there was a hatch in the wall used to pass refreshments to the early golfers (a practice which has been revised recently on special occasions).

The course turns north west towards the sea then west for the last four holes. Designed by nature and defined over the centuries by generations of golfers, the course boasts many natural features and Hazards. The first ever Women's Golf competition was played at Musselburgh Links, the old Golf Course in 1811. The prize for the fishwives competing was a scull and creel (the head dress and basket used to carry fish) and two fine silk handkerchiefs from Barcelona.
