A view of one of the water hazards at Millport Golf Course

This heathland course is so beautifully situated above the town of Millport that even the highest handicap golfer can take pleasure at least in the surroundings. The club was formed in 1888 and at the time was known as The Cumbrae Golf Club. This was later changed to avoid confusion with Comrie Golf Club in Perthshire. In 1913 the well-known golf course architect, James Braid, was invited to lay out the course "to suit the modern game".

A view of the Mull of Kintyre from MillportThe course measures just short of 6000 yards and has a par of 68 with SSS of 69. The golf course is no monster in length, but demands a full repertoire of shot making - there are several blind shots to test golfers skills, and anyone playing to their handicap will be flushed by the warm glow of achievment. The course commands panoramic views over the Firth including Ailsa Craig to the south, the Mull of Kintyre, Isle of Bute and Arran.

There is a practice area where you can "warm up" before tackling the course. There is a practise putting green, a chipping green and practise bunker and a larger area for longer irons. Gents, Ladies and Golfing Societies are made very welcome at Millport, where there are full bar and catering facilities. Our PGA professional Haldane Lee has a well stocked Pro Shop where you may purchase Millport logo accessories and clothing.
