Wigtownshire Golf Club

The "county" is a true Links course situated on the shores of the scenic Luce Bay in South West Scotland. The excellent condition of the course, combined with the subtly sloping greens and the changing sea breezes provide a test of golf for both high and low handicappers. There are 3 par 3's fourteen par 4's and one par 5.

The most notable hole is the 392 yard 12th, "Cunningham's Best" named after Gordon Cunningham the designer of the second nine holes. The original nine holes being designed in 1894 by Mr. C. Hunter then professional at Prestwick Golf Club. There is a large practice area adjacent to the first tee and because of the sandy soil base and proximity to the seas there is rarely a problem with water lying on the course and as such winter greens are rarely used. During the week individual golfers can be accomodated without much difficulty, but it must be remembered that this is a popular course with visiting parties and it may be prudent to telephone ahead to book a tee time. Trolleys, clubs and two sit-on-buggies are available for hire. Visitors will find a friendly and informal atmosphere in the clubhouse. There are changing and shower facilities for both ladies and gents and a disabled toilet. Catering is available throughout the year and a well stocked bar is also provided.
